tohatsu 9.8 corrosion on vertical shaft (new thread)

Since this part is splined, a good machine shop can help in a few ways. Any quality machine shop can easily do splines. Not as difficult as one would think. However, they can also turn down the rust and then weld up material to bring it back to spec as well. So you have many options. The money...

    Painting a new transmission

AH, Zinc Chromate isn't any harder to locate then any other type primer. I used Zinc Chromate on my bare metal Johnson engine and then used two part PPG high build primer on top of that. Then base color and clear coat. And it worked perfect and looks great. Zinc Chromate is used in a lot of...

tohatsu 9.8 corrosion on vertical shaft (new thread)

Not familiar with the part. Is it merely a solid shaft with nothing at either end? If so, have a machine shop turn one for you. Heck even if it is a special part with threads and/or other things attached at either end, a machine shop could reproduce one I'm sure. And maybe get a stainless steel...

    Rub Rail Restoration??

Don't know how your rub-rail was initially installed. But I used large head rivets to reinstall my rub-rail. The large head portion was to the inside of the hull for my setup. Have a look and see if they will work for yours as well. Once popped in place, very solid. However, I also used a...

    Painting a new transmission

Since it sounds like it will never come in contact with water, most any type paint should suffice. I would use the same type paint that you plan to use for the primer. In other words, if you go the Rustoleum route, use Rustoleum primer as well. That way they will be perfect for each other. And...

Well maybe it is one of those "emergency" outlets. You know, when you are trying to go butt having some issues with constipation. You can stick your fingers in the outlet and the shock will make everything cut loose. That's my story and sticking with it...I mean not-sticking with it. lol

1976 Tom Boy Boat, 1976 40 HP Johnson Outboard and who knows what Trailer

Today was one of the nicest days we've had in a long time. And since the temps reached nearly 60 degrees (actually 59) I decided to put the transom cap on with the 3m 5200. That's were the problem started. I cut the tip and punctured the seal and removed the pull tab at the back and inserted it...

Well All I can say is Welcome aboard. Nice to have you as a new member. Since I have no experiences with your engine, I have on ideas or suggestions either. However, there are tons of iboaters on here that will chime in and offer you ideas and answers. Just let them read your question for a...

Anyone here interested in Japanese kitchen knives?

Well I am surprised that no one is using that famous "Miracle Blade" set. You know, the one the "chief" takes and cuts through a nail and then cuts a tomato. How can you all miss such quality knifes... lol Seems we have a variety of knifes including ceramic blades. Since my wife will cut her...

1978 18ft Mariner Floor Rip Out: I have some questions..?

Amazing, without exception, you could of copied most any other boat project at the beginning, and posted it and it would like identical. The rot seems to be the norm with boat projects. But I will say, you have a nice boat to work with and I can see a very nice boat when you finish. Carry on and...

1976 Tom Boy Boat, 1976 40 HP Johnson Outboard and who knows what Trailer

Since I initially purchased this entire boat engine and trailer for about $600 dollars, and it is yet to touch water since purchasing in 2012, That is my value I am sending in for it. I mean it is a 1976 boat and engine, and realistic value is not an imaginary number. It was/is merely a hobby...

1976 Tom Boy Boat, 1976 40 HP Johnson Outboard and who knows what Trailer

Okay folks I need your opinion for this one. I just received a form in the mail asking me to tell them what fair market value is for my boat. They only want the boat and engine in that estimated cost. The trailer is taxed separately that I pay every year. I bought the boat, engine and trailer...

    Rub Rail Restoration??

You could always install some clever bow section part so your insert needs are a lot shorter to purchase. By now I figured you've already seen the prices for insert. That stuff has to be made out of gold for the cost. As for the rub rail itself, I removed my rub-rail and had to straighten it out...

350 Mag MPI Horizon died at sea, cannot find the problem.

When you finished "charging the battery", did you actually read the charged voltage? If the battery was not a high enough voltage, it could keep it from firing up. Other then that, I have nothing not being there and doing some testing...
