A few things to look at or try....do you have a new set of champion QL77JC4 ? Try a better oil preferably synthetic....I'm running mine at 75 to 1 and I know guys running 100 to 1 especially if your idling or trolling a lot. There's a service bulletin about running a little more advanced (1/4 to...

Need help evinrude 48 at wits end

The e and the s suggest 1990....not sure if anything is different though. Either your not doing a complete carb redo or your spark is weak. I'm going with your spark. Buy one or one like this and make sure your jumping 3/8 or better and it's a nice blue arc. Inline spark testers are inferior...

Be interesting to try the aluminum brazing rod....I bought some at the boat show years ago to patch my aluminum boat but couldn't get it to stick. He sure makes it look easy as did the salesman at the boat show. Might have to try it again as he said it's 2 gen rod. I know when welding aluminum...

I like the radiator people advice....drain the oil, leave out the plugs and have them slug some on. Grind/polish and paint. Easy peasy. It's an E-Tech, she's worth it!
