tiller throttle won't turn unless you push on linkage

You might get it freed up but do your self a favor and take it apart for some maintenance and replace the cable. It only takes a single strand of the cable to fail and it will start to bind in sheathing and only get worse every time you move it. So source the part and get it out of the way...

2000 Johnson 50 Cylinder Damage. Help!

Just a thought but maybe it had the head gasket replaced before being sold? It looks like water was in that cylinder long enough to leave a rust stain on the bottom. I’m not sure how far you have gotten into this motor but if it were me I would take it all the down for pice of mind before...

Can't rotate tilt lock lever on mid-90s Johnson 48 Special

The handle and cable is likely still available. They weren’t cheap many years ago so that probably hasn’t changed. In the meantime if you can reach the end of the cable with pliers or vice grips you could pull on it to operate the cylinder.

    Rebuilding Carb kits advice needed

Agreed on above. OEM is always best and worth every penny. A lot of after market kits are junk. Crappy gaskets miss matched needles and seat and so on. Go OEM or Sierra has always been good to me.

Can't rotate tilt lock lever on mid-90s Johnson 48 Special

It should engage if the motor is all the up. It could be stuck. Did you remove the handle to operate the tilt cylinder or is it missing?

Johnson J4REEA fuel and carb question

Are you talking about the red lever on the primer solenoid. It should in line with the solenoid body for regular use. If its turned to manual it may leak. Just a thought. .

    Johnson 1987 pistons

Try looking for a local machine shop to mic the bores and be sure they are within spec. If they are not round new rings will not seal and could break as well. You mentioned there is still crosshatch so you might be fine but better safe than sorry. Jmo

    Excessive smoking

I’m all for checking the fuel mix. Had a guy bring me a leaf blower the other day said it smoked a lot and air filer was oily. The fuel was almost black. I asked how he mixed his fuel and he said he just adds to the can when its low so he doesn’t run out. As a result he was probably running...
