Do you use non ethanol gas ?

My Volvo I/O requires Midgrade, but since Costco doesn't sell a Midgrade(in Western Canada), I just fill up with Premium which doesn't have the Disclaimer about the Corn Squeezings for Premium, like they have for Regular. Here in the Summer, the Humidity hits 100% just about every night, and I...

    Help Identifying Boat! Fiberform

Those type of lights shouldn't be too hard to find. iboats might have something that would work. and there other like Land and Sea As for the Transom, the wood is Rotted, and needs to be replaced, Putting a Metal Plate as Reinforcement only moves and concentrates the flexing to another area. I...

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

Whole Armature plate looks a little oily. Could need the upper crankshaft seal replaced. If the either of the points are dirty, no spark will happen either

    Launching/retrieving with FWD

I used to tow one of my older lighter boats with a little FWD Sedan DeVille. I never had a Problem with the Front End losing traction on the ramp, but the tongue weight wasn't more then 50-60 pounds. I did worry about the Transaxle, if it was strong enough for the extra 1700 lbs. I did trade it...

    1986 50 hp 3cyl

Welcome to iboats While it could happen, the Reeds on these engines rarely fail. Sounds like they don't know how to adjust the Timing and/or Sync on these engines. This is a 36 yr old engine, it can become a Money Pit, as the price of the parts you have already replaced cost more than the...

1995 Evinrude 88SPL Carb jet question

Sounds like a heavy/misadjusted Float, or a bit of dirt contaminating the Fuel Inlet of the Carb. When reassembling, don't forget to do a Link and Sync.

Completely different Powerheads, and likely midsections. As for Gearcases, I never even looked, but unlikely to swap Is this the engine I suggested you run from? Duplicate Posts on the same item are not the way to get info

1995 Evinrude 88SPL Carb jet question

Without knowing what OMC did to the carbs, it comes down to trusting them. Since both carbs have just one Orifice, it makes it appear that that is the way it supposed to be. Unlikely both on the same side fell out. BTW, those aren't Jets, they are Air Bleeds How did the motor run prior to this?

Run, not walk from this one, unless the seller is willing to have the engine inspected by a Qualified Shop.

    4.3 liter, the DC-10 of I/Os...

My experience with 90 degree V6s has made me look at them with Suspicion, and not to trust them in any Application. That Opinion was formed in the late 70s, early 80s, long before there was a World Wide Web.

1995 Evinrude 88SPL Carb jet question

Hmm, Odd. When I checked the Parts List for your engine, it says only 1 is used, then when I looked at the Parts list for an 85hp of the same year, it shows 2. The parts list for the crossflow 115 also shows only one.

    Winch Strap longevity

Nylon is not a good choice for a Winch Rope, as it can Stretch, so you are dealing with an Elastic Band which can store a lot of Energy. Polyethylene is a safer choice. Also avoid Polypropylene, as it too is stretchy, though not as bad as Nylon

Why is it still getting hot

Raw water cooling is where water taken out of the lake/river/ocean and is run thru the engine, Closed Cooling is where the engine has a closed loop of coolant that remains in the engine and its heat is shed in a Heat Exchanger that has the lake/river/ocean water going through it. You mentioned...
