5.7L 1984, Rough idle at start up, then ok after a minute or so

I experienced a crazy tach and a tip I picked up in a thread recommended I turn the selector switch to clean it up. So far so good.

    Flooding...

Your discription of the oil is vague, if your motor has sat all week with water in it you have a problem.

    Engine Alignment?

Just a thought, you may want to mic the alignment tool, according to some threads I have read, they can be out of spec from the manufacturer. I put an oil drain hose on my last boat and loved it.

+1 You probably have good plugs in it, but that's the first place I would look.

    Buffing the hull

Boat sat in the lake all last winter and the bottom got nasty, it's still discolored some, I sanded the dirt out of the water line but that's as far as I'm going.

A compression test on the cylinders when it's cold may give you an answer.

    Flooding...

Don't know what model of boat you have but if it's similar to mine and you had ankle deep water on the deck you had a full bilge and a lot of things got submerged. An automatic bilge pump would have been helpful. Good luck.

Resurrecting a Glastron Sigma Sailboat ……

Sailing was my first adventure with boats and will always be a love but sadly I have not kept up with current stuff. That small boat could be rigged in several ways so when you get into it I will offer what I can. For now clean it up and check all the rigging fittings, and see what you have.

    Time to reassemble

Oh am I so wrong, I watched it again and it's the throttle cable that I saw move a bit. Jeese I feel like a jerk!

    Time to reassemble

Yes I get that, but when he went back to the helm after measuring the travel in the remote cable he shifts back to forward to set the barrel on the remote, when he did that l saw the lower cable move. Maybe the drive popped out of gear at the same time. Just watch it and let me know what you see.

    How Fast, Speedo Selection?

Looks just like it. I didn't know Brunswick owned Merc. Seems the older I get the less I know.

    Time to reassemble

I will, the video is good and watched it many times, maybe I missed something. I will run the adjustment again and probably learn.. When Chris does the control cable adjustment and went to the helm to shift it back to forward I see the remote move a bit and that confused me. How can that be?

    Time to reassemble

I would like the drive to drop out of forward a bit sooner when returning to neutral. It goes into forward well before the throttle advances but sometimes I need to press the trigger on the control and pull it a bit further when going to neutral. Would bending the interrupt roller a bit closer...
