Pasty oil coming out the valve covers

Nothing Still does. You gotta find me that service bulletin or else it doesn't exist 😉

    Gimbal bearing.

I'm in the minority having run Sierra rubber bits without issue. Seems something else always breaks first, and I'm replacing the rubber before it wears out anyways. Last bellows are 4 years in and look brand new

2004 Merc TKS intermittently missing, running rich, running on.

See if you actually are dropping a cylinder. Put a timing light on each plug wire when it's acting up, see if you're getting consistent spark. Don't think that would cause the dieseling though.

Engine cranking with ignition switch off

You should only have voltage when the ignition is on

Engine cranking with ignition switch off

Maybe give us a hint as to which wire you're trying to connect? In general you're getting a short to power on the yellow/red wire... Is this a TKS?

    Bellow Replacement

I have a regular socket that I use. Really only issue is getting the old one off, and if you cut the cable then a normal socket bites well.

    1997 Mercruiser 5.7l w/ 2 barrel carb & thunderbolt ignition

Yeah, knew about that one. We need a, "Well, you didn't read that last sticky and already bought the boat, now what?" thread.

    spring vapor lock?

Probably. Hard to say without hearing it. You need to actually go to the engine compartment and listen to where it's coming from It could do either, but unless you're either cranking the engine or the ignition is in the on position, the switch has no power going to it

    Mercruiser 3.0 No Spark issues

Yes, your earlier posts suggested that it leaked on muffs, which wouldn't be the trim manifold I use a piece of hose with a schrader valve clamped on one end and a gear oil fitting on the other. Use a bike pump and gauge to measure. Plenty of fancy ideas if you search on here, but mine works.

    spring vapor lock?

No, distinction is important. If the cylinders were filled with gas, that would indicate that your carb is overflowing and gas is causing the hydrolock. Stuff a rag in them, tape, whatever. Wouldn't bother fogging. Take the lower off though, if the level was that high in the bilge your bellows...

    1997 Mercruiser 5.7l w/ 2 barrel carb & thunderbolt ignition

I feel like there was a "new to you boat checklist" floating around in a sticky somewhere, but I can't find it. If not, it should definitely exist

    spring vapor lock?

Haha, I can write a book on it at this point. Most things need to be done quickly, however I would for sure pull your drive, likely you have water in your bellows and the accompanying mess of that. Also, if youre starter, alternator, trim pump were submerged, there's a good chance of failure...

    spring vapor lock?

Sounds like it was. You still shouldn't have enough fuel in the cylinders to geyser out of the cylinders, no matter how much you pump the throttle. Don't know how much of that was mixed with water versus straight gas.

    spring vapor lock?

Fuel pump should be off with the ignition off always.

Carb or EFI? What's your starting procedure, and if carb'd are you familiar with how to start a carb engine?
