    Yeah, 33-240 ohms

Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

I didn't take the cable off, just greased the ram. It really wasn't bad, not frozen just... Noticeable. Tough access back there, we have a spare cable on deck if need be. *completely stripping donor boat FTW*

Getting closer. Took apart the trim pump motor. Didn't look terrible until I got to the brushes, which were corroded in place. Back together, connections cleaned, trim now working. Steering was a bit tight but loosened up with a bit of grease. Alternator still not working, guess I shouldn't be...

Is E-10 Fuel Acceptable Early in the Season?

Yes, ethanol will dissolve a bit of water and keep it from accumulating on the bottom of the tank. Even merc has said e10 is fine to use since the 80s.

Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

Yeah, that's reasonable. I can see that the 2 gears and upper bearing are ok. Just need to inspect that lower bearing and the input shaft bearings. Guessing I need to disassemble the input shaft bearing pack for inspection (that makes it a bigger project, esp since I'll need to get a dial torque...

Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

Well, I don't know that I want to tackle that. I've read about removing that bearing carrier ... And then I'll need tools to put it back together. How do you know it's the gear housing and not the driveshaft housing? I've got a spare gear housing. Like I said though, I'm trying to avoid the...

Alpha 2 not coming out of gear after new interrupt switch.

Just press the new switch and see if it kills the engine.

It wasn't the normal fur. Look at the second pic, and these weren't the biggest pieces. Felt very gritty

A few updates from today. New oil switch, rerouted wire harness. Went to put the drive back on, noticed the prop wouldn't turn. Looked in the cavity, decided to remove the prop. Hmmm. Tried to clean it out and flush the exhaust back and forward. No dice. Split the drive and found a bit of...

To fuel filter or not. 3.0

Nope. I can tell you for sure that the 1989 donor boat that I used didn't have a canister, and used the filter on the pump (in fact, see post #33 here, look at the last pic). Some were paper elements, earlier ones were stone. Other vintages were similar. I can also tell you 100% that the 470's...

    Bearing preload

You need a dial type in-lbs wrench. The specs are different depending on new vs used bearings, somewhere about 5 in lbs but idk off the top of my head (it's in the manual). Also I think @achris has a video Edit: here,

4.3L MPI 2007 Searay Sport 185. Single Alarm at 20 RPMs and higher

My thinking is that if the pcm is responsible for the low rpms, it's responding to sensor input. Any grown up pcm *should* throw a code, but there are few enough sensors that they should be able to have their values monitored manually in live view. How about knock sensor? Have we checked spark...

To fuel filter or not. 3.0

The 4.3's had them until they had electric pumps, as did the 470's. 4.3s also had a brief spell with some inline filters. I think the v8s were always (?) canister type.

To fuel filter or not. 3.0

Good point. The mechanical pumps had the built in filter, the electrics didn't.

To fuel filter or not. 3.0

Because Merc was cutting costs. Already been answered.

To fuel filter or not. 3.0

No it isn't. In a 2 stroke engine it's mixed with oil and lubricates the cylinders. In a 4 stroke, not so much
