Mercruiser 4.3…Milky oil coming from timing cover.

I've pulled that plug a few times now, always bone dry. And even if there was water in there, there's plenty of expansion room. You got a copy of that bulletin?

Mercruiser 4.3…Milky oil coming from timing cover.

Yeah, we've had this discussion before. It isn't necessary to drain, none of the service manuals (that I can find) mention it, that space is cavernous and drains (almost?) completely when you pull the t stat hose. Someone prove me wrong (@Scott Danforth )

    Mercruiser 3.0 No Spark issues

Absolutely, being too advanced. You can't time an engine with anything but a timing light. Muffs is fine.

How does the Mercruiser Shift Switch work?

Save yourself the trouble. Disconnect the lower shift cable and manually move it. There should be almost no resistance to shifting the drive. If there's even a "well, that doesn't take too much effort" amount of effort, it's too much effort and your cable (or less likely something else in the...

    4.1 mercruiser

A ½ dollar fits nicely in there with some epoxy. Interestingly actual money is cheaper than the merc part

    Water inside Mercruiser gimbal housing

Several potential spots, but first to check is your bellows. When was the last time they were changed? At this point your gimbal bearing looks rusty, so u joints are probably shot too. Also need to check your outdrive oil for water, input shaft seal may be gone, along with drive shaft damage...

    No power under load

Also, keep in mind that whoever is charging you for the diagnostics is screwing you because there isn't any competition. How much is an OBD2 scanner that can diagnose 90+% of codes? Why is that scanner <$75 but the extra 10% of proprietary manufacturer codes will cost $1000's for the factory...

    Hard steering

Whoops, that page is from a gen 1. Actually can't r remember if my '86 has them or not. Could probably drill and install a zerk on the Gen 1, since it originally came with one, not sure if that would be possible on a Gen 2?

    Hard steering

We're talking about the swivel pins presumably? I think of the hinge pins as up/down movement. No zerks on yours?

    Vibration at low speed

You don't want to know. Bad, bad things according to @Scott Danforth when I suggested that it might just make for a suuupper smooth luxo ride.

    Vibration at low speed

Interesting. Noticed the same thing on mine as well, didn't think it would be an issue with the balance shaft.

    power to bildge pump

Not to be a jerk, but punctuation would help your post a lot ... That said, nobody has any idea what we're working on. Skiff? Old timey paddle boat? In general, to test the switch, check for 12v on both sides of the switch. If you don't have 12v when the switch is on then that's your problem. As...

    Mercruiser 3.0 No Spark issues

I'd disconnect it at the coil, just to eliminate a wiring issue between the coil and dash Yes

1988 searay Seville cuddy cabin. Is it a good boat?

If you don't want to restore it (and no way in hell I'd do it at this point in my life--partial resto was plenty for me), your best bet is to part it out. If you paid a couple of grand for the boat, you should be able to break even at least. Still work though. Regardless of your choice the next...
