3.0 mercruiser ran for 5 min good. Then Just died?

Sounds heat related/expansion noises to me. And there's a kid there as well. Usually that drowns out any other noises...

Marine Flywheel compared to an auto flywheel

I've started doing this, esp on that same hose, which needs to be pulled for winterizing and is a pain to reach

    Trust the dealer?

My Carolina skiff probably weighs about 300#. 25 hp 2 stroke hits 28 mph with me aboard, 25 easy with 2 adults. I can pull my kids skiing with it.

Can anyone help me identify this boat model

Doesn't matter about the boat, we need to know about the engine to get the right manuals. That looks like a VP 280 drive, so not a '91. That HIN looks like m79 (space) I (not 1) to me.

Is this right? Water coolant inlet for motor.

Care to give us a hint about what we're working on? Is it a boat? I'll assume it's an A1G1 since that's what I have. So then yes, that donut is supposed to be there.

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Judge away. Taken today. Haven't cleaned anything since the boat got dunked. (But your boat is worth 50x mine, so it should be 50x better 😛 )

    Adding straight gas to mix

Didn't hear it so much as that it's science. Ethanol (and other alcohols) absorb water until they phase separate. Straight gas has no ability to hold water. That's why you add "dry gas" products--which are essentially straight methanol. Condensation can happen regardless of what's in your tank...

    1978 Mercruiser 470/170hp backfires

Don't "turn timing". Set dwell, set timing to 6'. Then check your fuel. Have you changed fuel filters? Do you have a fuel/water separator? How old is the fuel? If all good, next move is a carb rebuild. No need for 93 octane. Electronic ignition won't make your engine run any more (fill in the...

    Adding straight gas to mix

Ethanol fuel does a good job of absorbing excess water in the tank (up until a point).

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

I was so proud of my upholstery work in my boat...now I feel like my stuff looks like a 2 year old trying to color inside the lines.

    Boat pick up gone wrong...

A boat not starting can literally be anything that affects fuel, compression, or spark. From a loose wire to a hole in a piston.

Taking boat into salt / brackish water

Thousands of people use their boats in salt water without them immediately disintegrating, never mind just using it occasionally for the day. Returning to boat in fresh water is a nice way to flush it/wash it. I'd be more concerned with knowing what kind of weather/tides/currents/waves you'll...

Mercruiser 3.0 = Chevy 181 CID = Small Block Chevy Valve Train? 1:65 Rockers?

Ha, might be picking the wrong guy to have an argument about this stuff with, but this might be more relevant in a closed cooling situation, since area is also a factor (more on the hx side). Open cooling is constantly being refreshed with baseline temperature water
