drive thump thump or chug chug sound

Had a similar thing on a mercruiser. It would thump no matter what gear or neutral. Alignment was good, u-joints and gimble replaced, even tried two other drives. The problem continued. We were the third shop to look it over. I moved on to a different job so I'm not sure where the issue was, but...

Not an Engine Question but an outdrive?

On a side note, the splines on the shoe and shaft are not a real snug fit. Its close but slides on rather easily.

1986 Alpha One has leaked oil since service....

Pull the drive, pressure and vaccume check it. Many times its the shift shaft seal thats leaking, hopefully its that wich is an easy fix. You will have to split the drive to replace that seal.

Not an Engine Question but an outdrive?

Did you just remove the lower half? Usually removing the entire drive is easier. You have to put the shifter in to full forward to remove and replace the drive. The shoe in your pic isn't straight forward, so that might be your issue.

    Best sharpener for my Kabar?

I use coarse/medium/fine stones in that order depending on how dull the blade is. Freehand. I only use water on the stones, when done let them dry and put away. I prefer water as its readily available and when out hunting I keep at least the fine stone in my backpack for touch ups if needed...

    92 Johnson 60HP continuous alarm

Had the same issue. Tested the overheat sender, it was good. Don't remember the specs off hand. Replaced the alarm in the control box, good to go.

    Fixing Up Boat Help

There are wiring codes for marine use. But if someone has been in there before, wich usually is the case, nothing will match up to the codes. Here's one example. Marine Wire & Terminal Tech Specs | Boat wiring, Boat, Color coding (pinterest.com)

Gimbal bearing is stuck on my u joint drive shaft

You could pull it with a three jaw puller or cut it off. I think you need to test fit the new one in the housing and see how tight it fits. Also did you remove the retaining in on the outside of the bearing? If its not there its going to be loose.

Lower gear oil on Alpha One holes sealed

Hopefully its OK, I've seen people do that with drainplugs before. People think it helps seal it up.

    Fixing Up Boat Help

If you have someone in the area that has some time on their hands, and knows a bit about mercruiser's it would be helpful to have them take a look. Jumping into an i/o right off the bat is a bit intimidating. Most of what I am seeing is almost easy for me, but you have to know what does what. If...

New bearings: too much movement on spindle

With the rust on the crimp, I'd replace them regardless. You are in there, why come back in a few months because of another problem.

    Gas leak gas freezeing

If you truly have a fuel leak, I'd be looking for the source. Also its mixed with water? If the cover isn't leaking, you might have the foam filled hull saturated with water. What year/type of boat is it?

Cold water coming out the prop and not much out ports

Haven't read through the entire thread, but did you make sure the oil cooler is clear of debris?

    Bottom paint over topside paint

It's a trailer queen. Sort if. I wouldn't bother putting bottom paint on if it's not left in for extended periods of time. I'm doing mine without bottom paint, if its an issue later I'll put it on. But I'm in freshwater.

Can anyone identify this make and model of boat

Down in the bilge area many boats have a hull number plate down there someplace. Not all do but its worth a look.

    Is this legit?

If you can get it for free, you could part out what you can, bury the hull to the waterline and make it into a kids playhouse or sandbox.

    Bottom paint over topside paint

Regardless, you have to sand the bottom anyway, so down to the bottom a couple inches won't hurt. Then tape your waterline and sand away.

New bearings: too much movement on spindle

Just recalled from back in the day.... In tech school me and a buddy rebuilt the transmission in his moms car, road tested just fine. Cleaning up drain pans, found a thrust washer Laying there. What to do..... She drove that car for another eight years without issue. Stuff happens.....lol Just...
