Mercruiser 4.3L Thunderbolt 5 engine age

I mean, the obvious question should be why are you looking at a 4.3 in that boat? Plenty of room for a V8...

    What was mounted here?

Those look like mine. There's a wing-nut type insert with a hole in the middle that screws into the bushing. Apparently the idea is to unscrew a bit, let it drain until it clogs, and then replace the block in the spring

    TKS & diode & fuse

Yeah, seems like a real rube goldberg system. It will run without the diode, forget if it will run too rich or lean. The diode keeps the tks from backfeeding the ignition. @alldodge has some very good explanations and diagrams of the system, not sure which of his posts is most up to date/complete

Missing timing tab? Merc 4.3 2005

How confusing. Marks to the right on the damper are BTDC, marks on the left of the pointer on the timing cover are BTDC (which you don't have). Depends on your reference. Your timing tape has BTDC on the right when referenced against the stationary TDC mark on the cover

Mercruiser 3.0 squeal keeping engine from starting

I still think you need to turn it over by hand to feel where it's binding. I doubt oil treatment would make any difference. Running without load on the engine might. I'd be surprised if there really isn't a way to access the damper enough to turn it over, but I don't have experience with the 3.0

ignition switch source for fuel pump relay kit?

Looks like it, I can't tell for certain without seeing the whole thing. Should have 4 terminals,2 yellow black wires. It's just a relay that drives the starter. Sounds good.

ignition switch source for fuel pump relay kit?

You aren't. That 12v only is used to trigger the relay, which draws very little current. With the relay all of the current goes from your fat short red wire through the relay, on to your fat short wire from the relay through to the pump. None of it (pretty much) goes through the switch.

5.7l mercruiser gen 1 alpha 1 to vortec head swap problem please help...

@Lou C could probably help you out as well. Don't know what happened with the carbs and jetting between the vortec and non v8s. The 4.3 for sure needs to run fatter with the vortec

5.7l mercruiser gen 1 alpha 1 to vortec head swap problem please help...

I didn't think the pistons changed between the vortec and non. Actually, I know that's the case. At least the vortec truck pistons were the same as the merc non vortec... Also skeptical that these engines care what octane fuel you're running under most conditions. 9.4 isn't exactly supercar...

ignition switch source for fuel pump relay kit?

Relay shouldn't overheat, its function in life is to take the strain off the rest of your wiring 😁

    Sticky Carb

You need to adjust your cable. It should be long enough to push the butterfly valve closed slightly when idling

ignition switch source for fuel pump relay kit?

Yes, don't run it directly to the battery, messy and isn't fuse protected Dunno what these are in his setup Yes. Not ignition, should be the relay trigger from the switch, 12v when switch is closed This should go to a switched 12v source, coil pos for example, or choke That's the yellow...

High oil pressure smell of gas in oil

It might run for a few seconds after engine is off. Otherwise it's wired wrong (as in safety issue, needs to be corrected)

    Gimbal Bearing Noise?

Yeah there's a gap. Should do the job though. I never replaced my lower, not sure what the point of replacing is.
