    Edelbrock 1409 hard start, flooding

I've had that problem on mine several times. First time was because (I think) too high pressure from my brand new Carter pump (8-9 psi). Other 2 times not sure. I think (at least on mine) that the float can get hung up on the bracket in there when you put the top back on. At minimum need to pull...

470 4 barrel conversion, one cylinder missing

I'm not satisfied that that's the final answer. Seems that the earlier 4xx used different cams for the 2bbl/4bbl. Later models clearly all used the same cams, which were different from the early models. Interesting thread though. I can't recall another 2 -->4bbl conversion actually being done...

    Pre-Alpha Visual Identification Resources

Wow. That's bananas expensive. Look for an a1g1 drive, they're plentiful around here for around $250. Or buy a junk boat for <$1k. You'd be ahead just selling the trailer and pulling the drive. Where are you located?

    Help with charging system?

Any reason not to clean that fuse up and install it on the alternator side? Much easier to get to than the starter.

    Help with charging system?

I'll own that. Didn't have time to figure out what was going on until today. If the problem was the alt I wouldn't be on the water this weekend (Holiday weekend here). If I was wrong I'd be out $85 (but maybe get a working tach). Money well spent.

    Help with charging system?

Ok. So the good news: problem fixed. Bad news: Threw parts at the problem and now have 2 spare alternators. Turns out the problem was with the fuse itself. I disconnected the output wire and ran a different one straight to the battery (after the new alternator didn't work), which worked. Ohm'd...

    Going electric vs marinas

Unfortunately all true. This is going to be a case where government is forced to get involved and everyone will whine about it. In general, pollution is a cost that should be borne by manufacturers in many sectors--it carries a tangible financial cost.

If you're depending on a jerry can of gas to get home, you're doing it wrong.

Buying a used boat anxiety-talk me down.

My thoughts: My boat is 35 years old. Yes, I've done a lot of work to it. Worst was replacing the floor--stringers were still solid. Transom has had a few areas of minor rot that I've addressed, but would have become an issue. I keep it in the water moored for 60+ days a year. I have seen the...

    No spark possibly coil?

That whole mess looks pretty corroded. I'd start by cleaning all your connections. Guessing a lot of other connections look like that as well.

Starting a long sitting, 2003 Mercruiser 3.0 alpha one, with a gen 2 sterndrive.

You may have 3 fuel filters. One at the fuel pump, one at the carb inlet, and a fuel/water canister. Change all 3 (and add a fuel/water filter if you don't have one).

    Repowering 97 crownline. Best options?

I did both of these things. Still not trivial to get the hose out through the plug, but much easier/faster/more complete than sucking it up, and the filter would have been damn near impossible to get at. Super cheap and easy to do with the motor out.

My skiff hits 29 mph with a 25 hp. Weighs about 300# + 115# for the motor. Guessing that you could expect similar numbers.
