    GPS speedo/tach?

The holes around my speedometer pitot rotted out. Rather than redrilling I'd like to replace it with a GPS unit. My tach is also off, and I'd like tach functionality as well. Can anyone point me to something not ridiculously expensive? I'd like the tach to run off the distributor rather than be...

Mercruiser 4.3 will not start ( no clicks, not even cranking)

For me, how much I spend on a part is directly proportional to how big of a PITA it is to replace said part... Either way to with a PMGR starter. I've had a couple of DB electrical starters that haven't crapped out after a few years of use, others have used them as well

Why an increase in engine horsepower will hurt your ‘holeshot’, acceleration and midrange cruising.

Again, if anyone has access to the merc torque curves, that would be cool.

Why an increase in engine horsepower will hurt your ‘holeshot’, acceleration and midrange cruising.

Those are generalities. You can certainly increase the power band across the board by better technology/efficiency in an engine. They didn't put vortecs in trucks to increase power at 5k rpm. I don't know about how the carbs affect the performance, but again, boat manufacturers wouldn't put a...

    Question on fuel

And your burn rate is going to be far more dependent on what the engine is pushing vs. the engine itself

    Question on fuel

Chris is confusing Americans again. The RON used in other parts of the world is different than the aki used in the states. His 91 ron is our 86-87 aki. Use regular grade gas, premium/mid-range has ZERO beneficial effects in these engines (if I were concerned, I'd use top tier regular over cheap...

Why an increase in engine horsepower will hurt your ‘holeshot’, acceleration and midrange cruising.

Nice. I've tried in the past to find torque curves for these engines (particularly interested in the 3.7 v 4.3 v vortec v 4bbl/2bbl). I don't believe that you're sacrificing mid range with a vortec or a 4bbl carb, roller rockers, etc

Mercruiser 4.3 will not start ( no clicks, not even cranking)

If it doesn't trip when the ignition is on, that means that the fault is from the starting circuit, so either you're shorting to ground when you energize the circuit, or your starter is drawing too much current. You just need to work your way back. Try disconnecting the yellow/red white from the...

    4.3 Mercruiser cold start issues

So it does appear that my carb is affected. Tried today after a week sitting. Only 6 seconds of cranking, but feels like forever. Looks like I'll need to add a switch as well...

Leave it off. Only other thing is to check the lower seal in the cavity. The drive will pressure test fine without it. If you're not in a hurry to get the part it's probably worth replacing.

    5.7 mercruiser heads question.

Check them before you change them. Mine were all brass on a 4.3l from an '01 blazer.

    4.3 Mercruiser cold start issues

I started last week for the first time this season. I did jump the pump for a few seconds before attempting to start, and it literally took 1 crank (couldn't believe it). It's now sat a week, and I need to drain the block tonight (groan). I'll start it and see how long it takes to fire first.

Or you have/had bits of that o-ring leftover that someone else put on, and then it got shoved into the upper seal area when you put the drive back together (just had this scenario)

    98 4.3L Vortec problem

There is a separate plug, but there is no mention of it in the merc manual. I removed it twice last year, completely dry. Didn't remove it over the winter. I don't see where the water would hide if you remove the hose near the tstat. (But yeah OP, sounds like a cracked block :( )

    4.3 Mercruiser cold start issues

When I was trying to tune it last summer, there was fuel in the bowl every time I took the top off to change the jetting on my 1409. Out of curiosity, how long do you need to crank before the bowl fills/it starts?

You don't need to except on the gen2. Need to seal the quad seal passages,I use a rubber stopper.

    1990 Mercruiser 350 Inboard Issues

I don't know what ignition system you have, they're all different. 30' at 2500 rpm is in the right ballpark, but you should be setting your timing at idle.
