    1990 Mercruiser 350 Inboard Issues

Unless it's flooded, or if his choke is stuck closed, or if his timing is actually 30', or if he's trying to start with the throttle completely closed. I'd bet he has spark. It's running, he shuts down, then it doesn't restart. It's running when hot, then not running when it's less hot.

    1990 Mercruiser 350 Inboard Issues

    1. You'd better recheck your timing. I don't know your ignition system, but 30' at idle is way advanced. 2. To start a warm engine, you need to give it throttle. Put it in neutral and give it maybe ⅓ throttle. To clear a flooded engine, you give it full throttle and crank a bit. It's when you...

    1990 Mercruiser 350 Inboard Issues

Could be flooding. What's your starting procedure? New gas? Did you check spark? Fuel/spark/compression/timing. One of them is off. Doesn't sound like compression or timing if it started the next day. Also, welcome...

    Alpha 1 water hose

That would have been nice a couple of years ago when I did it. Definitely not a snap to install. EDIT: Was curious, found my order from 2018. Not preformed.

    Sig picture?

...and as a tip, when I first inserted the image it was huge. You can "toggle bb code" from within the sig editor, and the dimensions of the pic will show up. You can adjust image size that way.

    Alpha 1 water hose

Than regular heater hose? I think I used the correct part, big PITA.

    Sig picture?

Thanks. That was a lot more difficult than it should be...

    Sig picture?

It never migrated with the new software, been too lazy to update it. When I try to insert a picture, it only gives me the option to link an URL. Any way to just upload a pic to iboats and insert in the sig?

    Alpha 1 water hose

Nobody can tell you when a part that you know is bad is going to fail. I haven't heard of the hoses breaking, but they aren't magic, so no reason why they couldn't. As far as safety--I guess that depends on how you boat. If you're a couple of miles from home in a lake where a tow is easy, that...

    1983 Mercruiser Sterndrive - R

I don't think you could have screwed anything up, but it should turn the prop shaft unless you're in neutral. You tried moving the shift lever fwd/reverse and turning the input shaft, right?

    Motor swaps

Your heads will fit a pre vortec, exhaust manifolds are the same and will fit a vortec long block

    Motor swaps

Yes, you can swap an auto block, swap over your accessories, change head gasket and core plugs and call it a day. You'd need the same vintage block (non balance shaft, pre vortec--i think the cutoff would be pre-1992). Or you could upgrade to a balance shaft vortec engine, doable but more work...

    Newbie Twin motor question

Unclear if you're asking about the motor, or the whole package. As bondo said, the engines will be the same but the outdrives will be counter rotating.

    Back again

I was thinking that the OB might command a huge premium over the I/O, but it doesn't appear that that's the case anymore. Quick search showed 2021 200hp yamaha for $10k, that's maybe a couple more than a new I/O (but maybe not even for a bobtail). If it's time to repower it's easier to find a...

    Whats my old motor worth??

Rebuildable 5L shortblock isn't worth much. You can make a lot more parting it out, check ebay for prices and either list it for a little less or put it out for the same price locally. If you just want to unload it, my WAG would be $400-500 on CL.

    What am I missing here?

Thanks, that's what I'm thinking. That void is strange though, I have a few other props that don't have it. It's always worked fine. Nothing on there is seized including the thrust washer. Marine grease is your friend.

    Fired up today...

Just looking at the manual, it appears that the points ignition used on the 4.3 has 12' base and 32' total advance, so that's odd.

    What am I missing here?

I knocked out the center splined hub. The plastic piece appears to be in there still. Appears to me that these are the pieces in the pics above, no?

    Fired up today...

4.3/tb iv. Initial timing should be 8, it was 5-6. Full advance at 2500 rpm should be about 20-23'. I'll check total advance when I get on the water, promise.
