1992 Mercruiser 4.3 Alpha One Gen II has water in oil after rebuild.

Hearing air coming out is just fine as long as the cylinder isn't at tdc on the compression stroke...

4.3 mercruiser water in oil! Am i paranoid?

You'll want to start your own thread instead of tacking on to this one. (But no, doesn't have to be at TDC). @GA_Boater

    485 mercruiser

There are a couple of other differences, not sure what year you have, but the older ones have cast exhaust manifolds (instead of aluminum) and a different coolant reservoir, a 3" heat exchanger, different wiring for the starter (no slave solenoid).

350/5.7 Exhaust valve seal leak + low compression

Either way, the seal wouldn't affect compression. That means your valve isn't seating correctly for whatever reason. As AD said, that would be valve, guide, or seat.

1992 Mercruiser 4.3 Alpha One Gen II has water in oil after rebuild.

Can't picture what you're talking about with the intake, but if your intake manifold is leaking, then yes, that could be a source of water. Doesn't sound like you're doing much with your pressure testing. Are you just filling the cylinder with compressed air? If you're not at TDC on the...

Valve stem seals shouldn't do it. Didn't you replace all of the gaskets already? How about intake/exhaust manifold and risers? A compression test would tell you if something went really wrong with your rebuild, but best bang for the buck would probably be to pressure test the coolant system.

    1989 3.7L 224/165H

Could a bad HX do that? coolant can leak to the raw water side, but it would take increased pressure in the freshwater side to flow out the overflow tank. You should pressure test the system, but it could still hold pressure with a bad head gasket. Did you pressure test the radiator cap? That...

    Starboard engine drain/4.3L

Also got nervous about leaving that intake manifold drain in there. Pulled it again, and once again didn't get a drop of water out. There was a lot of space behind the drain; I can't imagine it holding enough water in there to crack anything. I think I leave it in next year.

    Starboard engine drain/4.3L

Hmm, I'll have to check the old block to see if that fitting is there. Almost positive that I moved the whole drain over, which had the petcock but no 90' bend. Old block had the direct drive starter.

That's what I figured, so pulled that drain first to confirm

    Starboard engine drain/4.3L

I forget where the post was, but a few weeks ago someone was commenting that when they drained the 4.3L, the starboard side engine drain was dry. I had noticed that mine was less, uh, runny when I first drained it (last drain pulled). I did it again last weekend, first drain pulled and got a ton...

Overhauling my 1988 MerCruiser 4.3 ltr. engine

Why not just a new crank? I can't imagine these engines were balanced after assembly, were they? BTW, is that a break at the main or rod bearing?

Nah, this is a "how close does my alignment need to be?" thread.

    Column Replacement

That's the bracket I was talking about. Can't quote you the code, but those posts do support more than just a vertical load. They are structurally tied together (usually via the headers) to resist movement, and also require uplift protection. Many jurisdictions require hurricane brackets as...

    Column Replacement

Might be more issue to trim out, but no way I'd trust screws to hold my roof up. You need support to keep the posts from shifting laterally. Also almost certainly against code. Can you get to the headers running in the roof? Preference would be to have them sit in a bracket on top of the posts...
