    No spark 4.3 Mercruiser

No, that's what it should be doing. Test either how I said or how Rick said. Actually, do mine first to make sure you're getting 12v at the switch.

No spark plug spark... 170 MC , 1985 Sea Ray

Not if he doesn't have a spark. Op, not sure what you're testing there. I *think* what you're doing is essentially checking for 12v at the coil (-), which isn't useful, and will get you those results.

    No spark 4.3 Mercruiser

No, that looks correct on his motor. You should get 12 v from p/y while cranking, starter powers it. When oil pressure rises and you're in the run position, starter no longer supplies voltage. At that point the switch closes and 12v is supplied by purple through the switch to p/y. P/y supplies...

No spark plug spark... 170 MC , 1985 Sea Ray

And when you use it wrong it's confusing. Current and voltage are measured differently.

If it backfired then you have spark, probably at the wrong time. I'm guessing your wires aren't in the right place.

How can I fix the water leaking at the stern for my boat?

This guy came on looking for reassurance about a quick fix, found that facts didn't fit what he wanted to hear, and is now going to do a completely half assed fix, ignoring that his boat may be unsafe (but at least he has an auto bilge pump). Op, hope you have your guests sign a waiver before...

2003 SeaRay 200 Bowrider seized engine????!!!!

@alldodge , what would have to be done to the ecu to upgrade to a 5.7? Cost?

    No spark 4.3 Mercruiser

Sounds like op might have the wrong switch. There shouldn't be an acc position. Unless you are doing something outside of factory wiring, nothing should be attached there. Purple is powered in the run position.

    No spark 4.3 Mercruiser

I can't get you to the right link on my phone, but go to http://boatinfo.no/ and look for manual #26. You can find a wiring diagram there

Do you know what this is? See pic.

Is the semi circle broken? Maybe a lift eye?

Crud in carburetor, is it a problem?

Water in the tank can absolutely do that. Also if that crud in the carb is in the right place, you can be running lean with those symptoms. I'd start by either running off a jerry can and/or disconnecting your fuel line at the carb and run it into a container to see what your gas looks like...

    Outdrive Alignment

Don't miss the point here that the drive will go on if you force it on, but your alignment will still be off, which can lead to engine coupler failure. I'd be worried that your mechanic is going to focus on just getting the drive on, rather than fixing alignment. In fact, I'd just have him align...

    Lower Unit compatibility question

🤷‍♂️ As long as the op knows the difference. People will frequently say "lower unit" when talking about the entire drive.

    Outdrive Alignment

    A. The alignment tool will bottom out, you can't insert it too far. B. Your gimbal bearing probably isn't out of alignment your engine is. Did you adjust the mounts at all? C. "Not hitting the drive hard enough". You can hit the drive as hard as you want, but it won't align it.

    Lower Unit compatibility question

He never responded to @Bondo about what exactly he was replacing, if "lower" meant "stern drive" then he'll need to reprop. And since he specified the gear ratio... $250 gets me complete out drives around here. I'd be wary of just buying the lower anyway for fear of what happened to the upper.

    Lower Unit compatibility question

Assuming you're coming from a 1.84 drive, you'll probably need to reprop. You should have some wiggle room if you have a 19 now

What pitch prop do you have on there now?

    Nola Mike's 3.7/470 --> 4.3L swap thread

Alright, boating season not quite done yet! I think my tach wasn't adjusted correctly. I think it was set for v8, but the v6 setting was between clicks on the adjustment, if that makes sense. Got it so that it now reads consistently 150 rpm higher than the digital tach. Today I hit wot at 4750...

Mercruiser 470 low compression on cylinder #4

So... Your next step should be a leak down test, maybe you can see where you're losing compression. It does sound like rings--if you had a water leak into #4 then you definitely could have damaged the cylinder. you half assed the push rods, so tough to totally rule that out, but didn't sound...
