Not knowing what part is broke hard question...but if it's under the carburators, you might need to remove them...if that's what you gotta do then take off all in one piece by removing the manifold bolts and keeping them together and adjusted...but a more likely scenario would be the cable has a problem, find the shift cable at motor and figure out how it changes gears, remove cable and try to shift manually...out of the water and not running of course...that should get you closer to finding the broken part...might even be in the control box...Tell us what you find...someone here should be able to help...just a Thought
