18" Shaft Length and 21" Hull Measurement?

I have an 18" transom and a 21" hull measurement on a 16' aluminum boat with a 6 HP evinrude outboard. The boat has plywood flooring too, so I think that will lower the boat a bit. I'll mostly be fishing by myself, so not a lot of extra added weight to lower the boat in the water.

What are the major concerns? I want to use the boat for a month or so this year until I buy a larger motor next year.

1, the motor may not be low enough in the water so cover the water intake ports.
2, the prop will not be below the bottom of the hull, inhibiting movement.
3, max speed may only be about 5 mph
4, boat will not plane

If you can live with that, do it.

Transoms are measured on the vertical and not along the hull. It sounds like you have a 20" transom. Hang that 6hp motor on the transom and see where the water pick up is, the prop, and the plate above the prop is in relation to the transom and keel. The plate right above the prop should be even or 1" higher then the keel.

Any added weight will only effect the performance. Having the transom sitting lower will have no effect on shaft length.
