I posted a few days ago about my 1959 Big Twin being hard to start, and I have decided that I need to tear int the carburetor again. I have picked up a new kit that has the welch plugs, and new float this time. I am unsure about a couple of pieces that came with this kit though. one being the cork donut that I would assume should go on the high speed nozzle, my original evinrude manual for this motor does not show one in the diagram, and the one that came with the other kit that I bought would not fit over the end of the nozzle. The manual shows for the low speed packing washer-packing-packing-washer, and for the high speed packing four cork packings, is this correct? I also can not figure out what the red fiber washer is used for. If any of you have rebuilt this specific carburetor, and know the answer to any of these questions I would be very grateful, as I do not want to have to tear into this thing again.

Carb kits usually come with extra parts that make it adaptable to other models. Don't try to put stuff in there that aren't on the parts list. You are correct concerning the needle valve packings.

Yeah, I'll bet the fibre washer is the washer that seals the plug which covers the high speed orifice on later carbs which don't have adjustable high speed mix valves.
