i have a 1965 angler 5hp that will only run while the choke is out. It will die quickly when pushing choke in. Thinking about pulling it off and cleaning up but where do I find adjustment info for the jets once they go back in. Can you find re build kits or maybe just time for a new carb ?

???---New carburetor, have you priced one lately.------Do you know if one is available.--------Having to use the choke indicated that there is dirt in the carburetor.---Clean it.----Also check compression.----Check and see if spark will jump a gap of 1/4" or more.

Having to choke to keep running is often due to a partially obstructed high speed jet. This jet is located behind the carb bowl drain plug in the front of carb bowl. Pull that plug (7/16 wrench), and poke a thin wire through the jet to clean (don't need to remove carb), and give it a try.
Good luck!

is there a needle under all those lead shots. I think I can get a carb for 150.00 I'm not having much luck finding a rebuild kit. I think everything is fine on firing,im a little afraid if I pull those jets out to clean them may be really hard to set them. Would you happen to know the factory setting on fuel mixture/air needle. Maybe out one full turn from seated.

Unless that thing has been buried in a swamp for the last ten years, you probably don't need a new carburetor. Chances are about 99% the high speed orifice plug ("jet") is dirty, as previously suggested. However, I do not approve shoving wires through it unless you are VERY careful and use soft copper wire. It will be destroyed if you enlarge or scratch it. Use some commercial carburetor cleaner.

Carburetor kits are available right here at iboats. If the 5hp isn't listed, simply use the 6hp one.

The best approach is to disassemble and soak, then reassemble with a carb kit. If not ready to do that, though, you could try spraying carb cleaner in through the h.s. jet at the bottom (need to get at and remove the screw or hex bolt down at the bottom of the bowl -- will drain fuel from the bowl). Might work as a temporary fix.

The big thing here is to make sure the high speed jet is clean !!
