Re: 1966 Clinton HELP!!

I'm not going to be much help. But on the good side you have an entry if you can find an Antique Outboard Motor meet. The last one here featured a Clinton Fling! You tie a 20 foot rope to the carry handle, stand at the end of the dock and toss the motor as far as you can. Measure the remaining rope for the distance. All competitors
do the same thing and the longest throw wins. If you need a door stop, you have it. If you are actually looking for an engine to use that age, consider Johnson, Evinrude, and to a lessor degree a Merc. Most parts can still be found.
Backfire :D

Hi! If your still interested in trying to use it as a outboard motor here is a manual that will help you even if you take the advice of "Backfire" and get an old OMC.
Old Outboard Motor
Service Manual
{1st Edition - Vol. 1}
Intertec Publishing Corp.
P.O. Box 12901,Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
I think they may have a web site ...not sure.
Good luck.

Yeh, when a guy asks for help what he really needs is a comedian. Try Clinton Engine Corp.---605 East Maple St.---Maquoketa, Iowa 52060 Phone 319-652-2411 they will send you an owners guide and parts list with prices. Hope you get it running and good fishing. Hal

TonySTL, hope you stick around the board. There are a lot of good folks who will help you out in any way they can. (And a few jokers) I own an old Clinton, an it's a great pack-in motor for camping. Light weight, simple to work on, and cheap. They are a bit loud, but the trout around here don't seem to care. :)

Re: 1966 Clinton HELP!!

Tony I work on small engines and the Clinton on your outboard is probasbly used on other things besides outboards. I found that the auto supply store NAPA can order a lot of the engine parts you want.I think some of the outboard parts may be available also. It might still be too old for them to order parts. Not to downgrade your Clinton, but I had 4 of them and when I found an Evinrude at a yard sale I gave away the Clintons. Mine were always hard to keep running. Good luck on yours. ~DON~
