Re: 1967 mq13b jumps out of forward gear

My 30 horse johnson was doing the same thing. I posted a recent topic and alot of people came back with the answers, you can adjust the shift linkage first, doesn't cost anything and easy to do, its right on the side of the engine where the lever is.

Worse case could be the clutch dog in the lower unit which I ended up replacing. If your lower unit is similar to mine (pretty sure it is) you can pull the lower unit off the engine, take the bolts holding the lower case on and split it, then slide the new clutch dog on once you have slid the gear off.

Very easy to do and only took me about an hour, but don't touch the phillips head screw on the side of the lower case, it is the pivot point for the shift fork and is kind of a pain to get lined back up again! Also on re-assembly, on the upper portion of the case where the bearing closest to the prop sits, there is a very small pin that goes into the outer bearing behind the prop, be sure that is in the bearing before tightening the bolts or it'll get crushed and you'll have problems
