1970 Johnson 60hp throttle/shift trouble

have a 1970 Johnson 60hp, model # 60esl70b.. took it to the creek yesterday and the motor is stuck in foward gear and when i started to give it gas nothing, once i got the throttle lever all the way foward it slightly picked up speed but wouldnt open all the way up. also it will not go into neutral and when i tried to pull the lever back to reverse it gave it the same little amount of throttle, but still going foward. so it will not shift out of foward and will not give it any gas unless you push the lever all the way foward. any idea what my problem is?? i believe its in the shifter/throttle lever but dont wana go ripping it apart without some idea of what im looking for. thanx for any info you have

look at it carefully, take it all all all apart, lube it and put it all all all back together.

Sounds like your cable clamp came loose either inside the controls or at the linkage on the motor.

everything seems intact.. i removed the motor cover and pushed the throttle lever foward. it was until it was almost all the way foward that it even moved the throttle on the engine so maybe a stretched cable?? or out of adjustment?... but would that cause it to not go in neutral or reverse??

I think you have an electric shift. If that's the case, it sounds like you have a broken wire or a bad connection somewhere.

yea there are some wire in the shift box so id say youre right about the electric shift... looks like i have multiple problems :facepalm:
