1973 Chrysler Charger 154 outboard

Can anyone tell me where the serial number is located? There is a metal tag on the back of the transom; but, according to the title office the number I gave is not correct. Should begin with 3 letters!?

it may not be a 1973, prior to 1972 HIN's were not required.

Thanks for the reply. The numbers on the metal tag on the transom are: 710031024. Can the year of the boat be determined from these?
