Hi newby here, I have a 1975 caravelle with a mercruiser 888, when i bought the boat it had been sitting and the outdrive would raise and lower slowly. then last time i was out the drive didn't go up all the way, so i lifted it by hand another inch so that i could put on the supports. Next time i go to lake the trim dosn't work at all, and i can here and see oil leaking from the bottom of the pump. Before i would have to hit the up and out button before i could use the down button other wise it wouldn't lower. Now i lower it by hand, and i can still go at and play but I can't use the trim, help!!! how do you bleed this system, i can't even see where to add fluid. thanks

Your system is already bleeding.Have you checked the fitings & clamps around the hoses for tightnes? Is it leaking from the unit itself?

Don't Keep Trying It,.... There's No Oil Left in it......

There's a Fill Screw on the pump body, forward port corner......

Hopefully,... You haven't Burnt it Up by Now.......

It's a Self-Bleeding System,.... But,... It's Got to Have Oil In It.........

Re: 1975 merc 888 trim problems

so all I have to do is ad fluid to the resivor and it will self bleed and fix it self? And yes on the way back to the dock I heard a hissing coming from the pump and I could see the fluid and air leaking from the base of the pump, not at the fittings, but where the base bolts on. Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it!!!

and fix it self?
I Didn't Say That.........

You've got to "Fix" it.........

The System,.. When Working Properly,.. Is Self-Bleeding..............

its wounded and bleeding. its needs a medic. once the external bleeding is solved the system will self bleed internally :)
usually from your description its the plastic line cracked at the compression fitting. but could be anywhere. ya gotta refill it and hunt for the leak.
