We have a 1976 Delta with a 302 ford in it. My dad bought it new in 76 and the last 10 years all we had to do was put two lower units in it. should have only put one, but the mechanic screwed it up the first time. any way everytime we take it to the lake we have to pull the plugs on the side of the manifolds because it will not cool. this is the first time we have ever had to do this in 27 years. Everytime we do that we get a little bit of water and a hole lot of air. My question is where could i possibly be getting air? Thats not allowing water to flow through like it should. Once we pull the plugs and all ther air gets out it pumps a great stream of water, but its just those first few mintues after we put it in the water. it only does it the first time we start it up for the day. after we crack the plugs and let all the air out we dont get anymore air all day long. what could be causing this any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks
Greg

Could the intake hose be collapsing or flapper stuck shut? I have the same engine and have never seen this happen.

after the air is bled out, the boat runs at normal tempature. they are not hot at all. the thermostat is brand new and the imppler in the out drive is prolly 3-4 years old. where is the flapper located at??
