1976 johnson 85hp alarm test???

i recently purchased a new old motor and boat and i see alot of people having a problem with alarms not many to test. i just would like to test it before i go out for the first time. any help with testing buzzer would be great and where to find the wires i never owned a johnson before i was always a merc fan but just couldn't pass the deal. thanks.

There is only one temperature switch on the 1976 V4 and it is in the starboard cylinder head. When that bank of cylinders overheats, the switch closes, grounds the tan wire and sounds the horn.

There was no quick disconnect between the switch and the large red plug, so you have to use a test probe to short the tan wire to the engine block. The ignition key must be in the run position.

thank you i tested it tonight it worked good now i'll know if i have any problems

Did any of this tie back to a status indicator that would have been next to the steering. On my 74 ranger i have a tachometer and some other instrument with a missing face and I am trying to identify its function.
