Look at pump and reservoir assy, at the bottom of the pump body, you should find 2 snap rings, behind the 2 snap rings are the pilot check valves. Inside the check valve is a needle that looks like float needle in carbuator, the needle has a seal on the tip, the seal desolves from the oil and heat. The engine maker does not service the pump body, they expect you to buy new one. you can remove the check valve and replace seal with Mercury PN 820719 which is a Force carbuator seal, or use a small o-ring. The hard part is getting the check valve out of the pump body.
