You could change the oil and use the nondetergent SAE 30. Always fill the resevoir in the tilt up position to avoid getting air in the system. If it still won't hold its most likely the O rings need changing. No mechanic should ever say he can't find to correct size O rings! No other parts required. If the tilt cylinder end cap is corroded from salt water you may have to scrap it.

Look at pump and reservoir assy, at the bottom of the pump body, you should find 2 snap rings, behind the 2 snap rings are the pilot check valves. Inside the check valve is a needle that looks like float needle in carbuator, the needle has a seal on the tip, the seal desolves from the oil and heat. The engine maker does not service the pump body, they expect you to buy new one. you can remove the check valve and replace seal with Mercury PN 820719 which is a Force carbuator seal, or use a small o-ring. The hard part is getting the check valve out of the pump body.

So how many o-rings does one person need to replace pilot check valves and shutter valves seals. I want to attempt this project but I want all my pats available. i think I'll get a fill screw o-ring too

Please just the # of o-rings for the 2 pilot valves and the 1 shuttle valve,Quote "The problem in the valve body is the seal on the pilot valve pn 820719" does that mean order 2, one for each pilot valve? AND<br />The shuttle valve only has the o-ring in the center what is the part # for this? Anyone please
