1985 25hp evinrude oil leak (please help)

I have a 1985 25hp evinrude. It looks like the oil is coming up from the bushing at the shift shaft. I dont no if the lower unit has to be dropped or not. I am new to this, but it sounds like two dollars in parts, and two hundred in labor. So i'm trying to fix it myself. I baught a book made by clymer for the motor, but i still don't understand how to fix it. I know there are two o rings, but how do i remove the bushing to replace them. Please help i have never worked on a boat motor before.

If you are talking about the bushing behind the water pump where the shift shaft goes into the lower unit, then yes the lower unit has to come off.
Go to the evinrude website and look up your engine and look at the parts breakdown. The last one I did I damaged the bushing and had to replace it, not a real expensive part.
I am sure there is a special tool to remove it without damage.
You should invest in the OEM manual, money well spent.

the bushing behind the screens where you would put the muffs to flush the motor out. the oil looks like it is coming up from the bushing below the nuts where you seperate the shift shaft behind the screens. thanks for your help I hope this give you a better understanding what I am talking about.

Here is what a real OMC manual says.
In order to get that bushing out, it looks like you have to disassemble the gear case, because the shift rod threads into the shift yolk.
I would recommend getting a real OMC manual.

Also looks to me like you can make something to work in a slide hammer.
