Long story short I did a dumb a** manoeuvre and decided to water test a boat I picked up cheap instead of pulling the vertical drive off and seeing what that knocking noise was. I blew the gimbal bearing causing the u-joints blow through the transom assembly. The good news is the trailer was still in the water so I didn't sink. The bad news is I need to replace the outer transom assembly.
Does anybody out there that would know what transom assemblies are compatible with that engine? Can I use a V6, V8 one? Does the year matter? I have a lead on an 89 that came out of a V8. I don't have the old assembly out to match it up as its in a fairly remote area. I'd like to 'try' to get it right and do an in and out on it without having to remove the old one and revisit the job another day. I apologize, I do not have the serial or model humber of the damaged assembly. The boat is an 89 Bayliner Capri 2152.
Thank You!
Dave
