Newbie to the forums... Hello All!!

I just picked up this boat and was wondering how to remove the back seat head pads.

I am redoing some of the interior, and this is all I have left to do.

I have been looking in the forums, but have not found what I need.

Please tell me the location of mounting screws/hardware, and include pictures please.

Again, this is for the head rest pads for the rear seats.

If you do not know exactly what I am asking, please do not speculate.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Your going to have to rip them off cause they were probly attached before they put fabric on back of seat ive seen them put back with velcrow or you have to screw them back from the front maybe adding like a button cap to fit on screw

So what you are saying is that they mounted the boards to the "frame" of the boat first, and then upholstered the head rest? Seems kinda odd to me and does not look that way. No way can they get the vinyl tucked in behind and stapled so neatly to the boards that make up the structure of the seats. Attached you will find a pic of a very similar boat as mine. You will see in the the pic what I am trying to figure out how to remove.

Please, if someone that has actually taken these off has a reply, please do. Just saying "rip them off" without actually having done the removal doesn't help, but thanks.

You might want to check out the restore started by jmmacky. His thread, "Bayliner Capri unintentional restoration project" may have what you are looking for, or you may be able to pm him on how it is done. He is just finishing up a complete top cap off restore.

Have you tried looking behind where they mount?
Most things mount through fiberglass with some sort of nut/bolt combination. Or glue.

Or just PM someone your address and they will use the Iboatsmobile and drive to your house and do it for you.

Re: 1989 Bayliner Capri 1902

Your boat looks slightly different to mine, but if you lift off those seat bases underneath you should be able to get your arm up behind the the fibreglass that the backs are attached to and see of there are any nuts you can undo. Chances are unfortunately that if there are any they are rusted solid but you may be able to free them up after a soaking of wd-40 or mech oil. There might be a lot of foam up under the cap behind those seat bases to negotiate in order to get at any fasteners that are attaching the seat backs.

Have a look and post some more pictures if it still isn't very obvious.

Ilovevintage.... Why don't I just rip them off, you ask?? Because I want to do it the right way, not some half-***** way. Thanks to others that have responded, I have looked up behind and not found anything. I contacted a local guy that says he has done it before, so I will just get him to do it. Thanks for the "help" anyway.

It may be glued but will probly have to cut fabric and pull material out since you dont want to pry it off then if you dont see staples or screws you know it was glued so basicly you will have to cut around or rip off of c

Re: 1989 Bayliner Capri 1902

I have an 88 bayliner 21ft'er. Mine were screwed on. The screws were tucked in between the seams. Some were actually behind the vinyl. I think they probably put the vinyl on the back part of the top of the wood first, then screwed the wood on, then stretced the vinyl down to the bottom and stapled it. I came back with new everything including wood. I am going to use double sided fasteners almost like they use on car door panels.

Thanks bigjerm7, you sound like you know what you are talking about, as you have done this before. I hate when people speculate and give advice about something they have never done. I haven't gotten it done yet, I am having all the mechanical stuff gone through right now. When I get it back from the shop I will take pictures and update progress, this way it willl be documented here how to do it in the future. Thanks again.

I have a 1990 bayliner capri with identicle backrests. remove the seat coushion and reach up behind the backrests behind the fiber glass.. each one should have 2 threaded studs with nuts holding them to the fiberglass.. i think someone else mentioned to do this also. thats how mine are attached and look identicle to yours.
