1989 gm 5.7 litre (350) omc drive

I am new to this forum, so I hope I am doing this right. This engine is not fuel injected, it has electronic ignition. The problem is when the engine is at 3000 rpm's, the regular speed that it has been used for about ten years with no problems. it is now surging: slows down and then picks up. All the things that one might think would cause this has been checked with no results. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.<br /><br />JOEY

I had a very similar problem, I have a 1973 evinrude 85 horse- intermittant surgung, take off like a bat out of hell, then settle down. <br />Pulled apart everything imaginable, sticking throttle cable inside the control, cleaned it, lubed it, loosed some of the linkages in the motor area, things where gummed up. Works like a charm again.
