I recently got two boats one is a 1989 Seville 19ft with a mercruiser 165 4banger (aka the 470) and one is a 1974 searay srv-200 19ft with a mercruiser v8 228 mcm. I have a few questions. First is the 228 a upgraded engine? Secondly what’s the weight on the 228? I am considering swapping engines and am wondering if the Seville can hold the weight and hp? I also have a Chevy 350 that I was thinking about swapping to marine using the 228 parts. Could it hold that? And is it worth it to use the 350. all three would need engine rebuilds. Lastly if I did the swap what issues are there?

I had an '88 Sorrento, which is the same hull as Seville. It came with a 4.3LX V6. You would obviously need to rebuild the dog house and move the front motor mount, and maybe cut back the decking to put a V8 in it, but I think the boat would handle it.

You might check the SeaRay site. They have lots of info on their boats there. The max HP rating on the hull should tell you what you need to know.

How hard do you think moving the motor mount would be? I will look on seaways website thanks for the help.

Ok, you have a IL4. You want a V8 I am an amateur, but I think you would need a two motor mounts on the sides, near the front. The dog house likely needs to get wider and possibly deeper, changing any jump seats.

Usually the stringers can be a platform for the motor mounts. Hopefully your's are in the right position.

All of that makes sense to me. I couldn’t find any info on searays website. Is there anywhere else I could look?

NADA says you could have a V8. Since the power of a V8 is about 220HP, and a 4.3LV6 power is 205HP, it makes sense. 10% more power on that boat from what I had is very reasonable.
