1995 Johnson V6 150 Starting Problems

Engine wont start. Never had any problems since bought in 95. Its been creeping up on me the last few outings. I finally get it started and it runs pretty good for the day. But the last two time its been bad. Tonight it wouldnt start at all. Motor turns over but no fire of engine. Choking seems to be working because i'm smelling gas. This morning it wouldn't fire for 30 minutes. Finally I got a fire and it cranked up. It ran all morning. Cranked up every time. Back on water tonight and no fire at all. Just realized filter has never been changed since purchased....got to do this no matter what, but it doesn't sound like this is the permanent fix. Any suggestions will be appreciated! Greg

im having the same problem with a 97 200hp evinrude. it will finally get where it want crank at all. i went to cdielectronics.com to trouble shoot the problem and it helps out a lot.. tell how to trouble shoot the stator,power pack, rectifier,and timing base..in detail

Start out with a basic health check to begin with.
Compression
Spark (using a spark tester)
Fuel delivery
Spark plug condition

Post results and go from there.

OK guys problem solved. Found vacuum hose on air box broken. Plug were oily too. Replaced hose and plugs and now engine fires everytime!!! Thanks for your help!
