2.3L omc

Hi I have a 2.3l omc ...im New at this...I'm trying to get the engine to run I put brand-new spark plugs and carburetor but for some reason when I tried to start it it starts to blow gas out of the carburetor I to spak plugs out to check for compression it seems like the exhaust is sucking in air and coming out of the carburetor when I turn the engine the opposite direction manually seems to work fine ..any thought on this?

Welcome Aboard! Almost kinda sorta sounds like the starter is turning backwards?

Did you just get this boat? Put a battery in it? Do you have any history on it?

Thank you guys!!!!!!! I kind of figure it out I have it almost right. I got the engine on time.. still not running!!! I have spark and gas but still not running!!! im thinking is the distributor not on correctly.. have any ideas on how to set the distributor on the right position?????

Find TDC on #1 piston. The rotor should be pointed at the #1 spark plug wire on the cap.
