2003 Yamaha 25 4stroke Tiller Handle

Of course this would happen when I can't get into a dealer because it's the start of fishing season, but...<br /><br />When I pulled the rope to start'er up, I noticed a wierd clackety sound. Didn't think much of it because it started on the secend pull. When we were out on the lake and I had re-started it after shutting it down, same sound. Then while idling, it quit and I couldn't restart it. Took a plug out and placed it against the block--no spark.<br /><br />Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

feathersnfins-<br />I've got a 1999 25hp 4 stroke and I have the same problem, how ironic is that. The clinking sound I had was coming from the cap above the flywheel. As you put the gear into forward or reverse postion you will see a cable running along the cap on the starboard side of engine. Follow the cable to the back into a little slot in the cap. There should also be a little arrow on the bottom of the slot. When the gear is in the neutral position, is should sit right at the arrow. Adjusting the cable won't help, you have to adjust the sleeve on the cable. Let me know how it goes. <br />My engine starts periodically, but when I give it some gas, it bogs down and dies. The only thing I found that might cause this problem, after checking fuel and spark, was the automatic choke, it keeps sticking. <br />I hope this helps. p.s.s.<br /><br />Do you think this why it doesn't seem to "catch" when I pull the starter? It only happens when the engine has been run awhile.

as an owner of this same engine, i am noticing a pattern of problems with this specific engine. im suspecting a recall.
