I have everything off the back transom and I'm ready to rip the lid back and pull the wood up.. Problem is I'm not sure what rivets needs to come out or where to cut. As you can see from the picture I still have the side rub rails on the boat and am trying to avoid pulling them off since they run the full length of the boat. Do I need to pull the three rivets going towards the outside of the boat? For anyone who has done this to a 26 ft as I believe the shorter boats are different, where did you cut.

thanks for the link. I got mine out. It wasn't quite as pretty as yours but I got it out. I'll have to do a bit of welding when i get it back in but she'll be fine. Hopefully it goes back in without problems.

not really breaking stuff but the 26 footers are a bit different and I had to make two cuts inorder to lift the lid back far enough. The aluminum nees the cuts welded back in and a tad of straightening. Wish it went as smooth as yours but it'll be as good as new when I'm done :) I plan on smoothing down the welds and repainting the top.

Oh man, I've had my fair share of breaks, bumps, bruises and blood letting on my projects. And, more of that to come:rolleyes:

One more question. I ground down all the solid mushroom head rivets to split the top. Now its time to reinstall the rivets and the solid closed end rivets are hard to find locally. Should I order the solid rivets or would standard aluminum/stainless rivets hold the two halves ok. Just wondering what others used.
