I have a 95 seaswirl with a carbed ford 302 engine. I recently dropped a 302 in it out of a 87 f150. Used the standard firing order 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 and could not get it to fire. I assumed because it was out of a 87 f150 it was not the H.O. firing order. After frustration set in I decided to try the 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 firing order and engine fired right up. Idle was smooth and seemed to rev up with no problems on muffs in driveway. Took to lake and immediately started backfiring on any acceleration and stalling out. Would fire up easily again with same issue. Carb was rebuilt completely as well. Question I have is if dizzy is 180? out will this engine run with the wrong firing order? Fellow backyard boat mechanic swears this is my problem. Of course i think he may have been in the sun to long and consumed quite a bit of adult beverages while telling me this. Also carb has not been properly tuned since installation. Where should I start? Thanks
