I got it cheap. It was used by the previous owner in salt water without flushing it every time. It idles and runs great but didn't pump any water at first. I opened the lower unit and pump to made sure that the inlet and the pump are not blocked. Used a wire aswell as a small manual pump and managed to get a chunk of salt/debris out of the inlet tube. Now at idle it always pumps a slow stream of water out of the pee-hole. I ran it for over 10 mins at idle to flush other salt buildups in the engine block.

The problem is whenever I give some throttle, water stream out of the pee-hole dribbles becomes a spary and then quits. It looks like the centrifugal action is not generating adequate outlet pressure because the impeller is weak and flexes too much to the center. Am I correct in my judgement and will changing the impellar fix this problem? Also can you please comment on how fast should be the water stream out of the pee-hole. If someone with a similar <6 hp engine could say like it takes about X minutes to fill a gallon at idle and Y minutes at 1/2 throttle that will be great info.

I am new to outboards, learnt a good deal from this forum and the service book from the library. Thanks to everyone for the wonderful comments in this forum.

jey
