'88 9.9 Gamefisher jumps out of gear

I just got an '88 9.9 Gamefisher. It continuously jump out of forward gear. Is there an adjustment?

This may not be your answer but is your idle a little high.Mine has a little trouble shifting when the idle is a little high. Charlie

88 9.9hp gamefisher...should be the same engine that a 9.9 force is.<br /><br />Check for a slipping prop...if this is not the case...has someone done some w/p work to it...if so they did not set the shift linkage properly.<br /><br />Other than that...you may need a new gear and clutch dog.<br /><br />TMD

Check the length of your shift rod, it has an exact measurement with a very small tolerance. This information is contained in the impeller kit and gives the exact dimension and points of measurement. When changing the impeller it is easy to give that shaft it an extra twist or 2 that can exceed the tolerance and make it "kick out" of gear. <br />Jim
