Hi everyone, I’ve recently purchased a 1973 9.5hp evinrude outboard that I saw ran when I got it. It came with a gas tank that I cleaned and put new mixed fuel in(50:1) and I went fishing with my friend but when we got to the river the motor wouldn’t start no matter how long we tried? We think it’s a problem with the carburetor needing a clean but idk so any help is great. Thanks!

I can not see , feel or hear your motor.-----So post the compression test values.-----And does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or better on both leads, yes or no ?----My bet is that you have weak spark.-----And you should install a new water pump impeller before your next outing.-----Oh,----I have about 10 of these motors for rebuild, parts and pieces.----Very familiar with them.

just to let you I have a 9622a which is a hard starter a small shot of fuel or carb cleaner in the carb grid above the carb gets it going everytime. I have adjusted the float cleaned the carb etc... ls and hs circuits yet it remains a hard starter...but it will puur all day with no hick-up.

here is some reading material

Sorry it’s been so long but thank you all for the advice. I don’t know much about motors but do you think sea foam might work?

SeaFoam can't fix Ignition issues, and it really doesn't do anything except make a bunch of Smoke. There are much better Chemicals for Decarboning an Engine
