A few days ago you helped me get my PTT off of my Yam 50TLRB. Thanks!! I got a new Yam PTT motor assembly--exact replacement for original. Now ready to put back on. My Yam service manual shows an O ring that goes between the motor and hydraulic pump, however, there was no O ring under the original motor and there is no place for an O ring on the new motor. How can water not leak in if there is no seal of any kind!! Should I make a paper gasket, use liquid gasket or put it in without any seal. This may be a really dumb question to you but it just doesn't make any sense to me to put it together without any kind of seal. What would you do?? Thanks for your help.

sometimes the oring will stick to the housing, sometimes to the motor.
dunno why but it MUST be there when you reinstall the motor or it will leak.
doesnt come with the new motor for some reason.

Did you look at a parts break down of your unit? And did it show a o-ring?
I am sure it did, mine did and even had a foam filter between the motor and pump I had to order.
Make sure you throw some paint at the unit after assembly just to seal of any spots from the salt water if that is where you are running

Re: 99yam40 another PTT question please

Thanks 99yam40 and rodbolt! I contacted the company I bought the trim motor from and asked them to look at their parts diagram and see if it showed an Oring or seal of any type. They said "It looks like it goes together with no seal." They gave me a link to the parts display and sure enough it does not show any type of seal. Common sense (and rodbolt) told me that there MUST be a seal. I went to a local tractor dealer and found an Oring that fit perfectly, installed the motor and I am now confident that no water will get into the hydraulic pump. 99yam40 I put about 10 coats of paint on the motor before installation and will spray it with rust inhibitor often. Those little trim motors are VERY expensive. I am going to grind the rust off the old stator and see if it is possible to be reused in the future. Thanks again for your help guys!

Thanks 99yam40. I'll get that Oring and take the one I got locally out. Thanks for all the helpful comments. This is a great forum!
