this is sorta old news.. but had quite a few new hampshire quarters in my pocket today ..an made me think..

earlier this fall ,, new hampshire's 'old man in the mounain' gone..

it's a rock formation in a 'notch'/pass...( notch is n.h. talk for pass ) in the BEAUTIFUL scenic white mts... a road passes thru this notch ,,an has many of sights to see along the way.. pull-offs are everywhere for cars to stop an gander at the different nature attractions, all along the road..

this rock formation of a profile of an 'old man's' face,,is the state's official symbol.. an can be seen on the N.H.quarter..

it fell this fall an is no more.. wild eh..??

Re: a state icon gone

He should have fallen years ago, but they kept reinfocing the ledge he was on. They had cables holding up his chin and nose, serious face lift. They had a big stink about what to do now that he fell off the mountain, rebuild him or just let it be. I'm glad they are just letting it be, nature made him and nature took him away.

I don't know why they call the "passes" "notches" around here. Must have been an english thing that they brought here from across the pond.

I'm in the central part of the state, just south of the lakes region. I guess N. Conway would be about 90-100 miles north of here.

Funny, I was thinking about that the other day....how the old man fell.

I didn't know he was being held up untill it was on the news the day he fell.

I think he's even on the auto plates.

Well,
I got to see him before he came crashing down, when I was about 4 my aunt took me in there one weekend, I thought it was the coolest thing back then.

Hey Rods, I do Winni a lot in the spring for the salmon and lakers. I get on Sunapee a couple times. I'm not sure if you know 202 & 9, but I live about 1/4 mile from stumpfield marsh, my local bass hole.

Do you fish the conn. river? I never have, but would love to. Seen some pics in the hawkeye of some mighty fine northerns coming from there.
