Finally got some clear days...(sorta) and got the Regal wet.

Over winter...rebuilt card (thanks Eggkr8) and replace lower unit with a used on off eBay.

Friday..took her out on local freshwater lake to tune in carb...idles at about 800-1000 RPM...alittle high (still working on that). Before...lose power and bog down after 3/4 throttle... now..get a slight hesitation at bout 3/4 throttle then kicks in...WOT was up to about 5400 (should be around 4800 - have to work on that). Got alittle water in bilge...last year before outdrive accident always bone dry...watch that.

Sunday...took her out to Naragansett Bay wiht kids. WOT at 4800..(I didn't change anything). Got caught in a nice shower (20 minutes in cuddy waiting it out). After shower passed had a great time cruising around. At ramp...pulled plug and "alot" of water poured out. I am hoping this was from rain. I turned bilge pump on after rain and nothing came out...(have to re-check pump).

WOT got me about 42 MPH by speedo...have to check it with GPS next.

All in all...I'm happy.

My question - is it normal to have a higher RPM in freshwater? If so...which should I use to determine prop size/pitch or should I get a second prop for freshwater use?

Thanks for all the advise you guys have given me in the past. Now I get to start my Silverline renovation...and YES...I will take LOTS of pictures.

-JustMrWill

Your WOT shouldn't change in different water. You mentioned you took your kids out when you got the lower WOT readings. How much more weight did you add? I am assuming more than one kid and cooler supplies, maybe topped off tank. That could easily add a couple hundred pounds or more, lowering WOT. Also depending on when the water was in the bilge, maybe it was there before you even hit the rain? Water is really heavy and it will sit toward the back also lowering the stern and causing the engine to work much harder.

The slight hesitation is normal, when your carb transitions from primary to secondary circuit. It can be mitigated with some tricky carb modifications, but is probably not worth it. if you are getting 42 MPH at 4800 with a normal load and thats in your WOT throttle range, that sounds about right.

Work on the idle though, changing gears at that high of RPM can tear up gears over time pretty quick.

Thanks for the info...and yup... had over 300 more pounds in boat (kids + supplies).

Hitting the ESA drops it to about 600 RPM...still alittle high for shifting...will work on that when I get back from upcoming trip.

-JustMrWill

Re: Almost there...I think.

Haven't followed the posts on your Regal so I don't know what your outdrive accident was. My outdrive accident was hitting a submerged sediment bar in the river. I was also taking on water, but not fast enough to concern me. I later found the source of the leak. My transom was rotten and the impact loosened the entire gimbal housing. Check your mounting bolts for your gimbal housing.

Wake5150 - Oakland beach is the only ramp I have launched out of in RI. If I am diving I launch out of Weymouth, MA. Once I get into fishing..then I will be launching whereever the fishies are.

gspig - I will look at the bolts. I hit a rock going about 25 MPH...nice 2 inch gash in lower unit. 8-(.

-JustMrWill
