Boat covers

I have an old, but very nicely restored dory. It's about 15 feet bow to stern.., not terribly big.., and I'm looking for a boat cover for it. Given it's age and type, standard generic covers don't seem available to fit. I'd like one with either a center post for drainage of the cover, or bows that extend side to side to lift the cover.

Anyone know of such a beast.., or a custom cover maker that might be able to serve the need.., without having to win the lottery to pay for it?

Thanks.

Re: Boat covers

I just got custom covers made for my 19ft Calais. I tried all the generic ones, even from Costco, but nothing fit right. Ended up shopping around locally and got a mooring cover with vent pole and a trailering cover made for $1500.cdn. I'm very happy. Just shop around, I'm sure you'll find something.

custom cover is going to cost you. even if you buy a generic and bring it to a shop for a better fit, it won't be cheap in the end.

there are plenty of support poles and bows to choose from. have you looked at what's available on iboats?

Re: Boat covers

I bought some sunbrella matieral off of ebay and ended up making my own. It took a saturday and is not perfect but is alot better than paying $1,500 for one.

Re: Boat covers

Yep.., I've looked and even called about the Westland covers. The drift boat covers were, I thought, pretty close to what I needed, but those covers are made for a boat with a 90" beam. The beam on my boat is much smaller, and I didn't want the cover hanging in the water.

And $1500.00 is in that category I mentioned wanting to avoid..., having to win the lottery.

Guess I'll keep looking and trying to avoid making my own. No seamstress am I.......

Thats $1500 for two covers not one!!! Mooring cover was $650, the trailer cover was $850. Initial quotes from some upholsterers was just $1500 for one! After spending much time, effort and money in restoring my boat I figured it was worth having decent covers.
