Hi, Recently I started to restore the floor in the cabin (a moterey 1988 23ft) a lot of rotten wood, I am new in this so, I have a couple of questions, hope anyone can help me:

1. first part i found in a terrible shape was the front and it was completely closed, no access to storage or anything, there was water but it was because the rotten wood, so my question is: do I have to keep it close? or can I open it to storage on the top?

2. the drain under the carpeted floor is just a hose, there is a drain strainer on it but just like a hole, so... can I connect the drain strainer to the hose? is ok if I do that?

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,....... It's yer boat, so design the repairs anyway you'd like,.....
More storage is always better in my book,.....
As for the hose, I'd dig it out, 'n put limber holes in all the bulkheads, 'n stringers, so that any water that gets to the hull, can self-drain back to the pumpable bilge at the back of the hull,.....

Thanks! Good to know, so is ok just leave it as storage! I am asking because I really do no the dynamics of the boat, I know cars and I know If a remove something even weight from some part of the car it could be significant to catastrophic... but there is areas where is completely irrelevant, so is ok then that all the bottom of the boat is connected through holes allowing water move to the closest bilge?... no reason to panic if I do that ... right? I will keep posting pics of the project!

Storage would be fine as would some added drainage. It does not seem like there was enough thought put in at the drawing board stage of the boat's evolution.

Are you planning on tabbing all those joints together? Also the stringer, I assume that was a work in-progress picture?

Ayuh,..... Everyone of those compartments need a limber hole at the lowest point, boat at rest, so that any water that finds it's way in,....
Can drain down through the hull, to the pumpable bilge,.....

So... another update ... I’m kind to f slow with this project for many reasons, but everything Inisde has been attached and first layer of fiber glass floor of the cabin is ready I add a layer of fiberglass on the bottom because “I think” it will help to protect the wood from the water under (when there is water in there) and as I was suggested by Bondo I made some holes to connect any space to the bilge 👍🏽
