can a prop wear out?

i have no tork (thrust) at high rpms. i have no sheared pins. but yet when i get my motor at high rpms there is no thrust. the boat idels around the lake but when i kick the throttle up the motor races to top end and the boat slows to a stop.

Sounds like you spun the prop.Pull the prop and replace your hub assembly.Make sure your shaft is in good shape but I bet you just need the assembly in the hub replaced.<br /><br />What kind of shape is your prop in? Those assemblies are designed to do that in the event of a high speed prop strike to try and save the lower unit.

stratos thanks, the prop is snug but it will turn on the bushing while the shaft does not turn. the shaft is in GOOD shape. the prop is beat up and could be replaced so with your input i will probably replace the entire prop asm.

That should fix your problem.If the prop is beat up you will probably notice a big increase in performance with a new prop. Your best bet is to replace the prop and hub assembly like you said.<br /><br />Keep the old prop for a spare to get you back to the dock if something like this happens again.If you can afford it, buy a extra hub assembly and keep it with the spare prop.
