carb problem?

drained fuel tamk, had water in it , engine run for 3 min, die start right back up ,repeats. cheked the pump at carb and am getting gas.would water in carb bowl do this ? 1993 4.3 omc 2bbl.

It probably would not hurt to open up the carb and check the condition

thanx that was my next move, it was rebuilt 2 yrs ago but im thinkin water in the carb or sticky carb

carbs ok , was wondering when i drained the tank at least most all of it, is there possiability of silt or gunk getting sucked up gas tube? dont know whats in the tank help!!! poured gas directly into gas line from tank .it seemed to run longer ,,but i still stall out after couple min. after reconnect hose,, oh yea i only have 2 or 3 gal. in ,,

Ayuh,...... Sure Can,+ Does.......<br /><br />When you Drained the tank,.. The Silt, Gunk,+ Water is what was Left in it.......<br /><br />There Might be a Screen on the end of the Pickup Tube inside the tank,.....<br />The Anti-siphon Valve could also be plugged,... It's Also located at the "Elbow",.. At the Tank Outlet.........<br /><br />A 5gal. Pail,+ a piece of Hose will make a Test Tank,.. <br />Hook the Hose to the Fuel Pump,+ Drop the other end into the Gas Can........<br /><br />I'd Still take the Carb. apart,+ Clean It........

Just to add to Bondos suggestion, there is also a chance that 2 or 3 gallons is not enough fuel in the tank for the pick up suck up

ok .. think maybe screen plugged at pickup tube ,, any suggestions or add more gas?? did clean carb been rebuilt 2 yrs ago, what to do about gunk,water at bottom ??thanx
