Ive been ferreting away on my 115 Im playing with the cooling system, it had no thermostat and the poppet valve was corroded stuck, I drilled the valve out, when I put the hose to the thermostat should I get water out the bypass hole? Only getting a trickle out the mid section outlet, I really don’t want to pull the head off but what if it’s caked up with crud, engine was used in the sea most it’s life doubt they were overly careful about flushing it, maybe I should drop the head.

The holes in the mid section, they're for excess water pressure.
If your hose doesn't have a lot of pressure, then you probably won't see water from the holes.

IF?? it's a salt water motor?? then maybe remove the head(if it will come off???) and check the passages??

Remove the thermo and look down inside for corrosion.
That will give you an idea of what's in the cooling passages??

Ok s so I popped the head off and the jacket no corrosion internals are like new, nice n tight, great bores, so I popped the exhaust plate, hello corrosion nearly every passage was caked hard, took me 3 hours to clean it out, I Broke 7 bolts so had to drill n recap, Im confuzzled with the poppet hole, I can only see one passage that drops down! , how many passages should there be perhaps one is still blocked big time, if I look straight into the bypass hole should there be a hole right at the back? At the moment just one that goes down, I would assume there would be two

One hole in and the other should be after the poppet.
It might go up to the block.
