Dial indicator

I was reading in a manual that they suggest using a dial indicator to set wot and idle timing. I have always used my timing light backing a boat down into the water on the trailer and letting it idle adjusting the scew and then wot on the trailer. My timing gun seems easier than using a dial indicator. Am I missing something using my timing gun?

nope<br /> I use the dynamic at WOT to verify my dail indicator or static methods.<br /> good luck and keep posting. check for merc servive bullitends from the 1993-94 era. they have a bulliten on cutting down props to make acceptable test wheels.
